Cuesta Baseball Falls to WSC Foe Moorpark

Cuesta Baseball is on a three-game slide after falling to Moorpark, 7-3, but may have played its final game until April 12.  The Cougars enter their hiatus in first place in the Western State Conference and ranked #13 in the State.  Today, they out-hit the unranked Raiders, 9-8, yet Moorpark collected ten extra-base runners off walks and hit batsmen.  Moorpark scored first by posting a pair of runs to open the game, however Cuesta Designated Hitter David Martinez cut the lead in half with a solo home run a few innings later.  The Raiders did most of their damage in the middle innings, with three runs in the 5th inning and two more in the 6th, as the Cougars emptied the bullpen using seven pitchers on the day.  Cuesta finally put together a big inning by collecting three hits in the 8th, unfortunately the inning ended with the bases loaded and the tying run at the plate.  Cuesta only managed a walk in their final at bat and fell to 13-7 overall and 7-3 against the Western State Conference.  The Cougars are the only member of the WSC in the State's Top 20.

The Cougars and Raiders are scheduled to play a doubleheader in Moorpark on Saturday (11/2 PM), however in a reaction to the California Department of Public Health guidance Cuesta has determined that  Effective immediately, all non-essential public gatherings, events, and ATHLETICS shall be cancelled or postponed until April 12, 2020.
