SANTA BARBARA – The SBCC baseball team was held without a run for the first time this season, falling to El Camino on Saturday at Pershing Park 6-0.

After a 10-3 start to the year, the Vaqueros are now 10-6 overall following their series with the Warriors (12-6).

SBCC finished the day with four hits and four walks, but was only able to get one runner to third base.

In the bottom of the third, after right fielder Max Porter reached on a walk, center fielder Matty Fung hit SBCC's only double of the day. Unfortunately for the Vaqueros, El Camino picked up outs on the following two batters to end the inning with runners on second and third.

The Warriors scored three runs in the following inning, capitalizing on a pair of SBCC errors to go up 3-0.

Santa Barbara had to wait until the sixth to get another runner in scoring position, when third baseman Gavin Haimovitz walked, stole second, and advanced to third on an error. However, needing just one out, the Warriors once again got out of the inning unscathed with a fly out to center field on the following at bat.

El Camino added three more runs before the ninth inning to take a 6-0 lead. SBCC's first two batters were hit by pitches in the bottom of the ninth, but the next three all resulted in outs to end the game.

Pitcher Colby Downard went for six innings, giving up just one earned run and two walks while striking out three.

The Vaqueros will look to get back to their winning ways on the road against Ventura, with their next three-game series beginning on Tuesday, Mar. 8 at 2:00 p.m.
