Baseball Beats Santa Ana 9-8 on Walk-Off Walk

VALLEY VILLAGE - Los Angeles Valley College Baseball beat Santa Ana 9-8, on Wednesday, on a walk-off walk from Jack Coscolluela!

On an unusually cold day in Los Angeles, the Monarchs came out hot scoring one run in the bottom of the first inning.  Santa Ana quickly put an end to that lead, putting up four runs in the top of the second inning.  It was back and forth the next two innings, but the Monarchs took it upon themselves to tie the game with a huge four-run, fifth inning.  Eddie Zapata reached first base on an error by the shortstop.  After the first out, Max Aude walked.  Bobby Velasco come up and singled to centerfield, hitting in his lone RBI of the game.  With two outs, it looked like the Monarch's rally was over.  But Luis Torres had other ideas - he doubled to left centerfield, scoring Velasco and Aude on the hit.  Sean David kept the rally going for one more run when he singled to right field to score Torres to tie the game at six.

Valley and Santa Ana continued to trade the lead and the Monarchs found themselves down 8-7 going into the bottom of the ninth inning.  Once again, Velasco led the inning off with a single to left field.  One out later, Santa Ana's pitcher felt the pressure, he hit David to load the bases.  Royce Calyton Jr. was also hit in the back to tie the game at eight.  That is when Jack Coscolluela had a clutch at bat to take the count full, 3-2 eventually walking to force the winning run in!

Luis Torres led the Monarchs with three RBI in the game by going 2-5 and scoring one run.  Bobby Velasco finished the game 2-3 with his RBI, two runs scored and two walks. Royce Clayton, Jr. scored the tying run on a 1-3 day with two RBI.

Great comeback Monarchs!  Valley Baseball returns to the field on Thursday, February 23, when the Monarchs host Palomar at 1:00 p.m.
