Lujan and Reels Power Warriors to Run-Rule Win over Chaffey

TORRANCE, Calif. --- Alyssa Lujan and Sarah Reels powered the El Camino College offense to a 10-2 run-rule victory over Chaffey on Wednesday afternoon at the ECC Softball Field.

Lujan and Reels combined to go 5-for-5 at the plate with two doubles, two triples, four runs scored and seven RBI to propel the Warriors (11-7) to a dominant victory over the Panthers (11-7).

Leah Madden also recorded a multi-hit game for the Warriors and Noemi Sandoval picked up the win in the circle after tossing three and 1/3 innings in relief. She allowed just three hits and struck out one batter to pick up the victory.

The Warriors jumped on the Panthers early, scoring five times in the first inning as the first six batters reached on three singles, a triple and a double.

Lujan opened the scoring with an RBI single with the bases loaded. Reels then lined a triple to the right-center field gap to clear the bases and make it 4-0 before an out was recorded. After a pop up, Jamelah Lewis doubled to right-center to trade places with Reels and make it 5-0 after one inning.

The Panthers would get two runs back in the second inning off Warriors starter Clarissa Lockett. Panthers pitcher Celeste Paniagua singled to right field to plate Alyah Rueff and then advanced to second on a throwing error from Leah Madden.

After a passed ball moved Paniagua to third, Lockett induced a groundout to second base. Sandoval then entered and surrendered an RBI single to Clarissa Banuelos before getting Coralyn Garcia to fly out and end the inning, leaving the Warriors with a 5-2 lead.

Sandoval would allow just two hits the rest of the way and retired eight of the last nine batters she faced.

Meanwhile, the Warriors offense would have another explosion in the fourth inning, highlighted by Lujan's two-run double with one out to put ECC up 8-2. Reels would add an RBI double and Liz Cortez also recorded an RBI single to make it 10-2 and Sandoval shut the door in the fifth, retiring the side in order.

The Warriors will return to South Coast Conference action on Thursday with a big game against Cerritos, who currently sit in third place in the conference, one game ahead of the Warriors. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
