Football blanks Santa Monica

Bakersfield, CA – The Bakersfield College football team routed the Santa Monica Corsairs Saturday night in Memorial Stadium, 56-0.

The scoring was early and often in the first quarter for the Renegades. Both Shane Jones and Elisha Ortiz scored two rushing touchdowns each in the first quarter that put BC up 28-0.

In the second quarter, Shane Jones and Isaiah Martin added one more touchdown each to bring the score to 42-0 heading into halftime.

In the second half, the Renegades eased up. The closest Santa Monica came to scoring was a field goal attempt in the third quarter that the BC defense blocked and was scooped up and returned for a touchdown by BC's Stephen Figures. BC added another touchdown in the fourth quarter on a Maceo Barbosa run to bring the final score to 56-0.

The Renegades finished the day with 368 yards of total offense - 352 of those being rushing yards.  Elisha Ortiz led the Renegades with 12 rushes for 104 yards and two TD's. Shane Jones carried the ball six times for 77 yards and three TD's and Isaiah Martin ran eight times for 91 yards and a TD.

Kicker Nathan De Jager was a perfect eight for eight on extra point attempts on the evening.

With the victory, BC improves to 2-1 on the season. They will next head down to Orange County to play the Golden West College Rustlers at their on-campus football field this coming Saturday (9/22) at 2pm.
