Chargers Come Alive in Second Game, Split Double-Header with Mt. SAC

CYPRESS, CA- The Cypress Chargers (13-6, 11-5) hosted Mt. SAC (10-5) on Friday afternoon for a non-conference double header. The Chargers were outmatched in game one, 5-3, but came alive in game two to pull out an 8-0 win. 

GAME 1

Emily Wagenbrenner (2-for-4, BB), Emily Rush (0-for-1, 3 BB), and Cameron Curiel (2-for3, BB) each reached base three times and recorded 1 RBI. Emily Rush pitched 5.1 innings allowing one earned run. Ariana Coronado (1-for-3) had two RBI's and Mikenna Barcelona (1-for-3, 2 RBI's) homered in the game for the Mounties.  

The Chargers fell behind early in the first inning when Mt. SAC put two runs on the board after back to back singles. The Chargers could not get any offense going as they trailed 5-0 entering the fifth inning. In the bottom of the fifth Mt. SAC walked the bases loaded with no outs and Cypress began to rally. Catcher, Emily Wagenbrenner, singled to right field scoring Paige Shafer. Cameron Curiel was next up, she walked and tallied another run on the board. Emily Rush followed with a walk of her own to score another run. The Chagrers rally was cut short after Alyssaa Huerta grounded out to third base. That was all for Cypress on the offensive end, and they would go on to lose, 5-3. 

GAME 2

Emily Adkison (3-for-4, 2B) was the star for Cypress recording five RBI's. Alyssa Huerta (4-for-4, 3 RBI) was perfect on the afternoon and crossed the plate four times. Emily Rush (3-for-4) had one RBI and scored two runs. Aubrey New (W, 1-0) went the distance on the mound for Cypress and earned her first victory of the season. 

Emily Adkison and Eliza Sandoval knocked in the first two runs of the game in the bottom of the first inning. Alyssa Huerta singled in Aubrey New in the second and later came around to score to push the Chargers lead to 4-0 after two innings. In the top of the fourth Mt. SAC scored two runs to cut the Cypress lead in half. Cypress answered in dominant fashion scoring 11 runs in the fourth inning. Cypress recorded nine hits in the inning, capped off by a double to center field by Emily Adkison that cleared the bases. The Chargers would allow one run to score in the fifth and went on to win 15-3. 

UP NEXT: The Chargers will face Golden West College next Wednesday, May 26th, in a double header at Cypress College beginning at 1pm.
