BASEBALL: HORNETS LOSE A CLOSE ONE IN EXTRAS

The Hornets hosted Golden West College on Tuesday for game two of the four-game series and lost it in extra innings 9-7.

It was a needed win for Fullerton after getting hit with a 21-5 loss to open the series against the Rustlers at home on Tuesday. FC will try and get those two games back when they play a doubleheader at Golden West tomorrow afternoon.

The Rustlers jumped on the Hornets in the second inning taking a 2-0 lead. Christian Lamar doubled to right center scoring Gunnar Magrann, and Miles Jenkins' single up the middle brought Lamar home.

GWC put up another run in the third when Julian Boyd hit a 415 foot shot over center field.

Elias Rios got it going for Fullerton in the third after hitting a single to left field scoring Ryan Lamastra.

Golden West went up 5-1 in the top of the fourth when Lamar reached first on a fielding error that scored a run, and soon after Cole Andavolgy hit a SAC fly to right field that gave Jenkins a chance to score from third.

Fullerton's "never say die" attitude paid up in the bottom of the seventh when Jacob Sharp clobbered a grand slam over the left field ivy scoring Dean Drake, Dominc Martinez, and David Barrios.

With the score now tied 5-5 heading into the top of the ninth, GWC's Jackson Lapiner hit a SAC fly to right field plating Steven Casas from third.

FC tied the game back up at 6-6 in the bottom ninth when Jacob McClure was able to come home from third due to a balk call on the pitcher.

In the top of the 10th, the Rustlers took advantage of some timely hitting to go up 9-6. Sebastian Orduno singled to right field scoring Sergio Alfaro and Andavolgy hit a triple to left field scoring Gallina and Orduno.

The Hornets managed to grab one run in the bottom of the tenth on a wild pitch that gave David Barrios the opportunity to come home, but it would not be enough as FC fell short in a hard-fought game.

FC starting pitcher Justin Schubert went 4 solid innings with 5 hits against, 3 runs, with 4 walks, and 5 K's. In relief, David Schlomovits was great going 5 innings with 6 hits against, 1 earned run, no walks, and 9 strikeouts.

Up Next: Fullerton (3-11 overall, 1-10 OEC) and Golden West will meet again for games three and four at Golden West College on Friday. Game time will be at 12:00 pm and 3:30 pm. Watch the live broadcast on SoCal College Sports.
