SAC Men’s Soccer Advances in CCCAA SoCal Regionals with 3-1 Win Over IVC

SANTA ANA, Calif. - The No. 8 seeded Santa Ana Men's Soccer team scored two goals in the second half of Saturday's CCCAA SoCal Regional Round one match to pull away and defeat No. 9 Irvine Valley (9-10-3) by a score of 3-1.

As expected, it was a competitive match for 90 minutes but the Dons (10-5-6) managed to gain an edge to take the season series that was previously tied at 1-1.

Freshman Forward Josue Martinez put SAC on the board first with a header into the right side of the IVC goal to finish a perfect pass by midfielder Jose Villa in the 25th minute.

But Irvine Valley would respond just one minute and 11 seconds later with their own goal off a corner kick to tie things up.

After the break, it was all Santa Ana as midfielder Marcelo Aguirre scored the go-ahead goal in the 65th minute on an assist from fellow midfielder Omar Rodriguez.

Santa Ana held off the Lasers for the rest of the match and added an insurance goal in extra time when Julian Cardenas floated a ball into the upper left corner of the goal to give the Dons a 3-1 lead.

With the win, the Dons advance to round two of the CCCAA SoCal Regionals where they will face No. 1 Mt. San Antonio College on Tuesday, November 23rd.

Mt. SAC (15-2-2) defeated No. 16 Cypress by a score of 3-1 on Saturday afternoon to advance. Tuesday's game time is still to be determined.
