Facing the team that ended their season in 2022, the Cerritos College softball team pounded out 15 hits in a 12-5 win over host Santiago Canyon College on Wednesday. The Falcons (1-1) will continue their busy week, as they travel to Santa Ana College for a 2:00 p.m. non-conference game on Thursday.

Against the Hawks (1-3), Cerritos surrendered the first run and then took a 4-1 lead in the top of the third inning, which included a pair of bases loaded walks that scored runs. Sophomore pitcher Richere Leduc (California HS) singled, which advanced sophomore outfielder Alyssa Capps (Downey HS) to second base after she led off by reaching on an error. Sophomore second baseman Alyssa Sotelo (El Rancho HS) got the scoring started with an RBI double that plated Capps. With one out and the bases loaded, sophomore shortstop Miranda Diaz (California HS) clubbed an RBI single, while both sophomore designated player Maddy Guillen (La Puente HS) and freshman outfielder Jazmine Macias (La Mirada HS) drew two-out bases loaded walks to close out the scoring in the inning.

It was a 6-2 advantage after Macias drove in a pair with a two-out double in the top of the fifth inning. Santiago Canyon closed to within 6-5 by the end of the inning, but the Falcons were not done with their bats. With Sotello on second base after a single and stolen base, sophomore third baseman Brooklyn Bedolla (Mayfair HS) clubbed a two-run home run to put the team in front, 8-5.

The Falcons added four more runs to their lead in the top of the seventh, with Bedolla leading the way with a two-run triple. She then came home when freshman Marley Manalo (Walnut HS) doubled her in with two outs.

Leduc, who had a pair of hits at the plate, tossed the first two innings. All nine batters had at least one hit, with Sotello (3-for-5, thre runs) and Manalo (3-for-5) leading the way. Bedolla drove in four runs, while Macias drove in three.
