PANTHERS FALL TO TOP 10 CERRITOS - RESUME IEAC PLAY TODAY
Chaffey traveled to face 6th-ranked Cerritos on Wednesday. In the first 3 innings, the Falcons jumped out to a 3-0 lead. The Panthers responded with a Violet Salazar solo home run (her 5th HR this season) to cut into the lead. In the 5th, Cerritos chased starter Isabella Anzueto, putting up four runs on five consecutive 2-out singles. The Panthers weren't done, though, as Ginger Duncan added a pinch-hit solo homer (her first collegiate HR) in the sixth inning. Chaffey kept up the offense with a Lorissa Avila RBI single in the 7th. Cora Garcia later scored on a well-executed double steal, but that was it for the Panthers.
"We faced a very good playoff team and although we played flawless defense we stranded far too many runners in scoring position," said Head Coach Jerry Tivey. Chaffey left 2 on in the first, another on 3rd base in the second, and the bases loaded in the 4th.
"Violet continued her stellar hitting in the leadoff spot, going 3-4 and Ginger Duncan again came up big as a pinch-hitter but we need more consistent production."
The Panthers head to San Bernardino Valley today for a doubleheader. The Wolverines are in 3rd place in conference but upset the Panthers 3 weeks ago with a 7-0 shutout. The Panthers are currently two games ahead of #2 Barstow in the championship race.
