Baseball Drops Game Two Versus Sequoias

SANTA MARIA, Calif. - The Allan Hancock College baseball program fell in game two of a three-game homestand against College of the Sequoias on Friday afternoon. | BOX SCORE

The Giants (1-1) built a 6-0 lead after scoring one run in the fourth and five in the fifth before a three-run homer by Evan Steinberger put Hancock (1-1) on the board in the bottom of the sixth. Sequoias registered an additional run in the eighth, but the Bulldogs responded with four runs in the same frame to tie the game after a two-run RBI from Kalub Ramirez and a pair by Parker Haskell and Steinberg. The Giants regained the lead in the final frame with a two-run showing while the AHC comeback fell short after scoring just one run in their final at-bat.

Nate Wenzel scattered five hits and allowed three earned runs in his first start on the bump, but did not factor into the final decision. Vance Serrano and Ricardo Rodriguez also appeared throughout the contest but the closer, Christian Dijkman, was charged with the loss after allowing two earned runs on four hits in the final inning. Jacob Steels was the lone member of the AHC squad to register multiple hits on the day while Steinberger led the pack with four RBIs.

The Bulldogs will return to action on Saturday, January 29th, to close out the three-game series against COS. The first pitch is set for 12 PM on John Osborne Field in Santa Maria, Calif.
