COD Baseball hosts President’s Day score fest, defeats Marauders, 13-11

COD (6-7) looked to avenge an earlier season loss to their President's Day guests and were helped by an offensive barrage, as the Roadrunners defeated the Antelope Valley Marauders of Lancaster (6-5), 13-11.

I am sure Antelope Valley felt right at home as the game began with gusty and bitterly cold conditions kicking up dirt throughout the entirety of the 3:42 minute contest, the Roadrunners second longest contest of the season.

Freshman right handed starting pitcher Taishin Matsushita (Kofu, Japan), in his third start of the season, pitched 4 and two-thirds innings, surrendering five runs, all earned on 10 hits, walking three and striking out six in a no decision.

Freshman right handed relief pitcher Kevin Sanchez (Indio Shadow Hills) finished the fourth inning, then could not get anyone out in the fifth, giving up four runs, all earned on a hit, walking one and striking out one.

Freshman right handed relief pitcher Marco Calderon-Lopez (Indio H.S.) grabbed his first win of 2022, tossing the final four innings, surrendering two runs, both earned, on three hits, walking three and striking out eight in a huge effort out of the bullpen.

Freshman first baseman Taisei Yamada (Kai Japan Aviation) went 2 for 2 with three runs scored, a run batted in and three walks out of the clean-up spot in the lineup.

Freshman third baseman Spencer Dickinson (Rancho Mirage H.S.) went 2 for 4 with his second home run and sixth double of 2022, with three runs scored and three RBI's out of the five hole.

Freshman designated hitter Elvis Farina, Jr. (Orange Park (FL) Oakleaf) went 2 for 4 with a run scored and three RBI's out of the seven hole in the lineup and freshman catcher Martin Sanchez (Beaumont H.S.) went 2 for 3, adding his second double of 2022.

Freshman second baseman Brian Parry (Redlands H.S.) hit his third and fourth doubles of the season, going 2 for 2, with two RBI's and three walks out of the nine hole in the lineup.

The next game for College of the Desert Baseball will be at Compton College on February 22nd at 2p. The next home game for the Roadrunners will be on Saturday, February 26 at 1p, where Desert will begin Inland Empire Athletics Conference (IEAC) play by hosting the Cerro Coso Coyotes of Ridgecrest.
