Chargers Win by 11 Runs Versus LA Pierce

CYPRESS, CA- Chargers baseball (4-2, 0-0 OEC) defeated the visiting LA Pierce Bulls (0-5, 0-0 WSC) on Thursday afternoon, 15-4.

The matchup began with a Bulls blast in their first opportunity to take an early lead. But their advantage did not last long as the Chargers quickly took the edge in the second inning. Cole Wentz got the first run on the board for Cypress that scored Dean Toigo off of a sacrifice fly out. Tanner Gerosa followed with a ground out which allowed Isaac Rodriguez to touch home. The score remained 2-1 for the next three innings of play until the Chargers bats exploded in the fifth.

Nick Mascaro tallied himself yet another big blast to help Cypress distance themselves from LA Pierce. With bases loaded later in the frame, Wentz collected a second RBI on the day as runners went station to station. Gerosa drew a walk with bases loaded and Luke Honikel traded a hit by pitch for an RBI to extend the Cypress lead. Cade Liefer singled to pick up two runs and Mascaro hit a sacrifice fly for the seventh run in the 5th inning.

After a quiet sixth, the Chargers lineup went back to work after the seventh inning stretch. The home team scored four runs and took advantage of multiple Bulls errors. Trent Lyle got a base hit that scored Andre Naranjo and Toigo launched a three-run home run. LA Pierce managed to score one run in the eighth from a sacrifice fly. But Cypress responded yet again with an Aaron Perez double that scored a run and he touched home later in the inning off an error. Though the Bulls put up two runs in the ninth, the Chargers were able to shut them down. The 15-4 win gave Cypress their fourth win on the season.

Toigo had an impressive day at the plate as he went 2-4 with three RBI's, his big home run and he touched home three times. Mascaro tallied another home run for his year stats as he collected two RBIs and drew a walk. Wentz had a multi-hit game with a run scored and two RBI's. Connor Wylde pitched four frames and only allowed one run with four strikeouts. Aidan Lambert picked up the win with his appearance in the fifth inning and struck out two batters. Cesar Ortiz and Andy Mike did not allow a run as they both pitched an inning each.
