No. 3 Hawks suffer first loss, fall 4-1 in conference opener at Cañada

The undefeated run to start the season came to a halting end for the Las Positas College women's soccer team. The No. 3 state-ranked Hawks allowed multiple goals in a game for the first time this season and suffered a 4-1 loss at Cañada College in both teams' Coast Conference opener on Tuesday.

Las Positas fell to 8-1 overall and 0-1 in conference play while Cañada moved to 3-3-1 and 1-0.

The Hawks found themselves trailing in a game for just the second time this season, as Cañada jumped out to a 2-0 halftime lead after goals in the 25th and 35th minutes.

Caitlyn Garrison got LPC back in the game, scoring her team-leading 12th goal of the season in the 60th minute to cut the deficit in half.

But Cañada put the game out of reach, scoring two final goals in the 65th and 75th minutes. Hawks' goalkeeper Dariana Mihalache had posted shutouts in seven of eight games this season but couldn't stop the offensive attack she faced.

Las Positas will look to bounce back on Friday (Oct. 1) at 6:30 p.m. when the Hawks host No. 6 state-ranked City College of San Francisco in a matchup of top teams.
