Irvine Valley's women's soccer team ran into the No. 1-ranked team in the state Friday afternoon at the OC Great Park.

And the Hawks showed why they are so highly touted.

Santiago Canyon scored three goals in the first half and five more in the second in an 8-0 Orange Empire Conference victory over the Lasers.

Santiago Canyon stayed unbeaten on the year, improving its record to 8-0 overall and 2-0 in conference. Irvine Valley fell to 1-8-1 overall and 0-2 in the OEC.

Camryn Toole and Frida Vizcarra each scored two goals and Summer Stewart, Kylee Medlin, Mimi Diaz-Casarrubias and Courtney Carbajal each added a goal for the Hawks.

Irvine Valley freshman goalie Frida Molina made five saves for the Lasers.

IVC plays again next Tuesday on the road at Golden West at 3 p.m. Fans are allowed.
