Quintanilla Pitches Beavers to 3-2 Win Over Sac City

QUINTANILLA PITCHES BEAVERS TO 3-2 WIN OVER SAC CITY

American River College got their best pitching performance of the year on Thursday as Sophomore RHP Tyler Quintanilla (Summit Shasta) went 8 innings and allowed the Panthers just two runs on 6 hits while striking out 9.  It was his team leading third win of the season.  Sophomore closer Christian Lucero (River City) came on in the 9th to shut the door and pick up his state leading 6th save of the year.  The Beavers got on the board in the bottom of the first after two were out on back to back singles by Sophomore LF Alejandro Belo (Vanden) and Sophomore 1B Bryce Sidler (Oakmont).  Freshman 2B Nick Ochoa (Segerstrom) then hit a fly ball that Sac City’s right fielder dropped allowing Belo to score.  The Panthers tied it in the top of the 2nd but ARC came back to regain the lead in the 3rd on a two out single to left by Sidler to score sophomore 3B Blake Yuyama (Kennedy) who had singled earlier in the inning.  The bats were mostly quiet until the 6th when Sidler led off with a double to right, his 3rd hit of the game.  After a groundout by Ochoa moved Sidler to third, sophomore RF Michael Grijalva (Ponderosa) singled to left to score Sidler.  Sac City did get a run in the 7th and had runners at 2nd and 3rd with one out but Quintanilla was able to get a strikeout and a flyout to end the threat.

The two teams will meet again in the rubber match on Saturday at Union Stadium on the Sac City campus at 1:00 pm.
