SHASTA SPLITS DOUBLEHEADERS AGAINST MERCED, LASSEN

REDDING, Calif. – Shasta College's softball team split a doubleheader with Merced College with a 1-0 win and 8-0 loss and split with Lassen College with an 8-2 win and 9-5 loss.

Shasta 1, Merced 0 (8 innings)
The lone run in the game came on Whitney Carnes' RBI double to score Cora Peterson in the eighth inning. Carnes was 2 for 4 with an RBI, Khloe Forrister was 3 for 4 with two doubles and Autumn Tenney and Autumn Campbell each had a hit. Carnes struck out three and allowed three hits across her complete game shutout.

Merced 8, Shasta 0 (5 innings)
Merced scored seven runs in the first two innings and Shasta collected only two hits – one each from Macey Bunn and Carnes. Peterson took the loss after giving up six runs on nine hits in 1.1 innings. Carnes gave up one run on three hits in 2.2 innings.

Shasta 8, Lassen 2
The Knights used a five-run fourth inning to pull away from the Cougars. Carnes was 3 for 4 with a double and two runs, Forrister was 3 for 4 with an RBI, Bunn was 2 for 4 with a double and a run and Jadyn Woolery and Tenney each had a hit and scored a run. Carnes struck out 11, walked four and gave up one earned run on four hits in the complete-game win.

Lassen 9, Shasta 5
The Knights led 4-2 but Lassen put up seven runs in the bottom of the third to pull away. Shasta had four hits from four players, led by Peterson's 1 for 4 day with a triple, an RBI and two runs scored. Riley Horton, Campbell and Kiley Wendt each had a hit and scored a run. Carnes gave up two runs on two hits in two innings and Peterson allowed six earned runs on nine hits in four innings pitched.

Shasta is 7-11 in Golden Valley Conference play and 14-19 overall.
