The excitement of the first-ever playoff game for FLC basketball quickly became reality on Friday night when the #5 seeded Merced Blue Devils took control early and never looked back, outscoring the #12 seed Falcons 55-29 in the first half on their way to a convincing 82-50 win. The Blue Devils brought a hyper-tough man-to-man defense and a press that flustered the Falcons early. They also featured not one, but TWO All-state selections in their starting five, either one of which could have been crowned Player of the Year. Needless to say, the Falcons were a bit outmatched.
While it was not the outcome they'd hoped for, the Falcons can walk away with their heads high; at 16-13, they accomplished something no basketball team at FLC had ever done: finished with a winning record and qualified for the state playoffs. Congratulations to coach Ali Mollet and the Falcon women!
