Bobcats have a big day in Ojai

The Saddleback women's tennis team was in action on Thursday at the CCCAA State Tennis Tournament in Ojai, California.  The Bobcats had a big day, with one singles player advancing to play on Friday and two doubles teams advancing.

Sydney Grove (pictured) had a long but rewarding day for Saddleback on Thursday.  She opened the day in singles play with a straight set win in the round of 128 when she breezed past College of the Canyons' Ashley Villarta (6-4, 6-1).   After a short break, she returned to the court in the round of 64 to win again when she scored another straight set win over West Valley College's Abigail Prokter (7-6, 6-2).  With the wins, Grove advanced to the round of 32 when she will face Orange Coast College's Maddy Veltri on Friday.

Grove then took the court in doubles play with Ainsley Beresford and the duo teamed for a 6-1, 6-0 win over San Diego City College's Angelica Martinez and Arleen Torres.  With the win, Grove and Beresford advance to the round of 32 where they will face a team from Modesto Junior College on Friday.

Saddleback had another pair advance to the round of 32 in doubles play when Brooke Buser and Ellie Maruna defeated Antelope Valley College's Sydney Bush and Naia Smithley, 6-4, 6-2.  Buser and Maruna will now play a team yet to be determined on Friday afternoon.
