Brianna Cortez Leads the Chargers to Round 2 in Win Over El Camino, 2-0

CYPRESS, CA- Cypress Chargers women's soccer (17-1-2) opened up postseason play this afternoon against the El Camino Warriors (9-9-3) in the first round of the SoCal Regional playoffs. The Chargers will advance to the second round after defeating the Warriors 2-0. 

Cypress dominated the game on both ends of the field as they led the game with 21 shots compared to El Camino's two. Brianna Cortez and Brianna Rodriguez each found the back of the net for Cypress and Anahi Diaz assisted on the second and final goal of the game for the Chargers. Goalkeeper's, Siriana Gudino and Jade Bernardo, each played a half for Cypress as they kept the clean sheet in tact for the Chargers. 

The first goal of the game came off the foot of Brianna Cortez in the 39th minute. The Chargers had 10 shots in the first half, but only two of them forced El Camino to make a save. The Chargers amped up the pressure in the second half as Alyssa Villalobos fired off four shots as she attacked the net. The Cypress offense continued to challenge the El Camino goalkeeper as they recorded five shots on goal in the second half. Brianna Rodriguez (84') was able to extend the Charger lead to 2-0 after her shot snuck past the keeper inside the left post. 

UP NEXT: The Chargers will advance to round two and host the Santiago Canyon Hawks on Tuesday, November 23rd (time is TBD). This will be the third matchup of the season between the OEC opponents, where both teams hold a victory against one another this season.
