Lady Cougars Get Past Cypress 5-0 For First Win

CYPRESS — College of the Canyon won its first match of the season with an odd 5-0 final score at Cypress College on Friday.

Canyons (1-3, 0-1) swept the three doubles matches to begin the day then picked up two quick singles victories, prompting Cypress (0-3) to withdraw from the remaining three matches that were already underway.

COC whad been scheduled to face Saddleback later in the afternoon but that match was cancelled after the Bobcats also withdrew.

Freshman Ellie Wingo and Marie Arana Llosa both picked up singles victories for Canyons. 

In the early action it was the teams of Ashley Villarta/Lexi Paunovic, Jennifer Russell/Wingo, and Faith Abt/Arana Llosa sweeping the doubles points.

Canyons is back in action for a Western State Conference (WSC) match 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 7 at Santa Monica College.
