COD Football rushes off the Rams, 50-33

COD (3-5; 2-3) played a good game against a team desperate for a win and gave the home crowd something to cheer about as the Roadrunners chased off the Victor Valley Rams of Victorville (1-7; 0-4), 50-33.

The Roadrunners have an 33-10 all-time record versus Victor Valley since these teams first met in 1967. Desert has a 21-4 record in the Coachella Valley versus the Rams.

While the record bespeaks a level of dominance by the Roadrunners, you never know what you are going to get between these two long time opponents. Sometimes, the annual contest devolves into a game where both teams end up with a combined 300 plus yards of penalties or you end up with an instant classic, like tonight.

Freshman quarterback Cesar Vela (Rancho Mirage H.S.) had his biggest game of the year for the Roadrunners, going 16 for 25, completing 64% of his passes and tossing for 250 yards and five touchdowns, while rushing for 30 yards on 9 carries. Getting seven different receivers involved in the offensive explosion.

Sophomore linebacker Michael Moreno (Brawley H.S.) produced another great game for the Roadrunners, grabbing a 0.5 sack for a loss of 2 yards and 1.5 tackles for loss totaling 7 yards, plus 7 tackles, including 3 solo tackles.

Freshman punter and free safety, Brooks Stephenson (Palm Desert H.S.) had another great night for the Roadrunners, not only leading the team in total tackles, but also putting 4 of his 5 punts inside the 20-yard line, totaling 217 yards and averaging 43.4 yards per punt.
