SANTA BARBARA, CA – In Wednesday night's battle of two of the best teams in the state, the No. 14 SBCC women's volleyball team was defeated by No. 11 Moorpark in four sets, 25-19, 26-24, 25-27, 25-19.

"We weren't our sharpest early in the game which allowed Moorpark to get into a rhythm and really grab the momentum which is so key in volleyball," head coach Kat Niksto said. "We as a team hate to lose, but we are going to learn from it, get back in the gym tomorrow with a renewed sense of purpose, and work on being a little better tomorrow than we were today."

The Vaqueros (9-8, 3-1) were led on offense by sophomore opposite Caroline McCarty, who put up a career-high 15 kills (.263). She also recorded 11 digs for her third double-double of the year and fourth of her Vaquero career.

Piper Ellbogn-Pettersen and Heidi Collins both finished with seven kills, while Karoline Ruiz had six. Libero Jacelin McKie and defensive specialist Gabby Russell led the defense with 20 and 12 digs, respectively.

Setter Emma Crabbe added 29 assists and was one assist shy of another double-double.

Santa Barbara will look to bounce back this Friday at LA Pierce in a 6:00 p.m. conference matchup.
