Hawks Draw in Wild Shootout

Sacramento, Calif. The Lady Hawks hosted Lake Tahoe Community College in a battle of two playoff hopefuls. Both teams battled hard for 90 minutes and ended the game in a 3-3 tie.

The matched kicked off and you could feel the desire and passion from both sides. Neither team wanted to give an inch on the field. The first 30 minutes passed and both teams had a few chances, but nothing too clear on goal. Sophomore goalkeeper Ryan Chapman had 5 saves in the first half. As the game approached halftime a foul on the right side of the field lead to a free kick for LTCC. They whipped in  far post cross to the 6 yard line and a LTCC player got on the end of that cross and headed the ball into the back of the net in the 40th minute of the match. Lady Hawks would go into the half down 0-1.

The 2nd half started and the Lady Hawks came out on fire and attacking looking to equalize the match. The Lady Hawks did not have to wait long as they were rewarded quickly when freshman Jeada Wilson played a ball into freshman Nariyah O'Brien down the left side. O'Brien took a brilliant first touch towards goal and hit a banger from 25 out to tie the game 1-1. Once the match was knotted up both teams slowed the tempo down a bit until freshman Lakshmi Vallabhaneni went on a brilliant solo run down the left side of the field. Lucky then crossed the ball to an oncoming Analise Villasenor who hit a laser to the right of the keeper from 22 yards out. Lady Hawks did not slow down and continued creating chances, and in the 89th minute off a nice solo run by O'Brien. O'Brien slipped a ball in from Analise who put the Hawks up 3-1. LTCC did not give up and managed to score 2 goals in stoppage time to tie up the game 3-3 as the referee blew the final whistle. Not the result we hoped for, but an unforgettable match with a lot of goals.

Lady Hawks will travel to Butte College Friday for a 2pm game. Lady Hawks will look to get their first win of the season on the road.
