"Our 6s team of Flor Bustos and Caroline McCarty got a tough draw playing Ventura's 2s team in the first round. They battled tough and came up short.

"Our 4s team also played tough and competed great the first day, winning their first set against Venturas 6s team and then lost a close two-set match against Ventura's 1 team.

"Overall Friday, everyone played great volleyball and I was so pleased to have 4 of our 6 teams still competing on the second day. There were 8 teams total still left in the bracket and only 7 teams would be qualifying for southern pairs regionals."

Ariana Garner –
"Kelissa Lemoine and Emma Crabbe, our 1s pair ended up taking first place in our conference tournament. I am so happy for this team as they have worked tirelessly on and off the court for this opportunity and were able to stay composed and capitalize. Each match they played this weekend they were in control. Their consistency and execution was unmatched and their ability to play at such a high level throughout the season was amazing to watch. Not dropping a single set, this pair, I feel really deserved this honor and I cannot wait to watch them compete at the regional tournament.

"Our 2s team Bella Johnson and Cori Tommeraason finished 3rd this weekend playing great volleyball as a pair. Their communication as a pair is so stellar, it is fun to watch them grind it out and find ways to win their matches.

"3s team Jaceline Mckie and Lily Krongold ended as the 4th seed, also playing great volleyball as a pair. They battled through three tough matches Saturday only dropping sets against our own teams.

"Piper and Jordyn our 5s pair was our last team to earn a spot at the pairs regionals. They had a tough draw the entire tournament and were able to find ways to win. They dropped a match early Saturday to our 1s team, then again to Ventura's 2s. Their last match of the day was against Bakersfield's 1s pair. We won the first set and dropped the second set. They were down 4-11 at our timeout. The girls talked about playing the last few points with as much intention as possible, trying to speed up the pace of the match and gain control.

"With a couple great serves from Piper the girls came back and were within reach of Bakersfield. Jordyn passed lights out in serve receive and was able to side out. Then Jordyn went back to serve and earned them game point. The game was back and forth from that point and we ended up winning the 3rd set, 17-15. The game was so fun to watch, end of the day when both teams were exhausted and our girls were able to battle through the physical and mental fatigue. Bakersfield put up such a great fight. I am really happy for our 5s team."

NEXT UP
The Vaqueros have a busy week ahead of them. They will play against Orange Coast and Ventura on Tuesday, May 3 at Huntington Beach in their first ever postseason regionals matches. Then, on Friday, SBCC's pairs head down to El Camino College to begin a two-day, 32-team, double elimination tournament to see who goes to the state championship.
