IRVINE, Calif. - The Santa Ana College Beach Volleyball team competed at the 2023 Orange Empire Conference Beach Volleyball Pairs Tournaments on the campus of Irvine Valley from April 26-28th.

On day one, Chelsea Asciak and Jenna Hoppe advanced to the round of 32 through the play-ins with a 22-20, 21-14 win over the No. 4 pair from Golden West. They were then knocked out of the tournament after facing a No. 1 seed from IVC, falling 21-4, 21-9. 

Roxanne Costelloand Laisha Hochstrasser also started in the play-ins and faced off against the No. 5 seed from Orange Coast. With a 21-16, 21-13 loss, the Dons No. 4 pair was eliminated. 

The Dons had three more pairs in the round of 32 and saw two of them advance to Friday. 

Tallie Twyman and Ines Lopes battled in their match against the No. 4 pair from IVC but were upset in three sets by a score of 20-22, 21-15, 15-9. 

Representing the No. 3 team for Santa Ana was Andrea Sanchez and Kassandra Zavala. The pair pulled off an upset over Fullerton's top team, earning a 21-12, 10-21, 15-10 win and a spot in the round of 16. 

Kaiden Raif and Matilde Teixeira joined them in the next round as they cruised to a 21-8, 21-15 win.

On Friday, both of the remaining Santa Ana pairs fell in the opening matches to land in the consolation bracket where they were matched up against each other. 

The pair of Raif and Teixeira moved on with a 21-19, 21-13 victory, becoming the only SAC team remaining in the tournament. Unfortunately, the duo dropped back to back three set matches, falling 12th place to end their tournament run.
