With a team comprised solely of freshmen, the Cerritos College volleyball team is still working on stringing together several solid performances. On Wednesday, the Falcons (3-2) were swept by host Golden West, 11-25, 17-25, 14-25 in a non-conference match. The team was scheduled to host Copper Mountain College on Friday, but have earned a forfeit win as their opponent is short on players after a virus-related incident, with the team improving to 4-2 on the year. The team will open South Coast Conference play next Wednesday at 5:00 p.m. when they host Rio Hondo College.

In the loss to the Rustlers (3-0), the Falcons had their issues from the outset and weren't able to put together any kind of sustained attack. Freshman Jayda Harris-Amete (La Mirada HS) led the team in kills, but also had her struggles at the net. The duo of Aiyana Sierra (La Mirada HS) and Abigail Gutierrez (Downey HS) each finished with four kills, with Gutierrez also turning in nine digs.

Freshman setter Carissa Mendibles (Downey HS) recorded 16 assists, with Breanna Lizarraga (Paramount HS) leading the back row with 11 digs. Marissa Mendibles (Downey HS) posted nine digs in the setback.
