COD Baseball grab 12th straight win over the Rams, 11-4

COD (18-12; 7-9) continued their dominance of the team from the High Desert as the Roadrunners won their twelfth consecutive game against the Victor Valley Rams of Victorville (2-28; 1-15), 11-4.

The Roadrunners have not lost to Victor Valley since April 16, 2015 and that streak continued as five players had multi-hit games and four pitchers combined to hold back the Rams. Desert had big innings in the third and fifth as sophomore left fielder Jacob Mejia (Palm Desert H.S.) grabbed his tenth multi-hit game of the season, going a perfect 5 for 5 from the five hole in the lineup, scoring three times and bringing home two runs batted in for his best game of the year. Sophomore first baseman Abraham Hernandez (La Quinta H.S.) collected his eleventh multi-hit game of the season, going 3 for 5 out of the six hole, scoring a run and three RBIs. Sophomore short stop Braden Schiffner (Littleton (CO) H.S.) grabbed his third multi-hit game of the season, going 3 for 5 from the nine hole and sophomore right fielder Joeseph Jimenez (Palm Desert H.S.) collected his sixth consecutive multi-hit game, a streak stretching back to April 1, going 3 for 5 out of the leadoff spot. Sophomore second baseman Brian Parry (Redlands H.S.) grabbed his fifth multi-hit game of the season, going 2 for 5 with two RBIs out of the two hole in the lineup.

Sophomore right handed starting pitcher Johnny Young (Redding Shasta) tossed four innings, surrendering a run, unearned, on two hits striking out two on the no decision. Young was pulled in the top of the fifth after cramping up due to the heat while warming up. Sophomore right handed relief pitcher Kevin Sanchez (Indio Shadow Hills) would grab his first win of the season, tossing two innings, giving up three runs on four hits and striking out two. Sophomore left handed relief pitcher Kenny Keller (Tampa (FL) Thomas R. Robinson) tossed an inning and sophomore right handed relief pitcher Matthew Sapakoff (Littleton (CO) H.S.) wrapped up the final two innings, striking out three.

The next contest for Desert is on Thursday, April 13th at 2:30p at the Victor Valley Rams of Victorville. The next home game for the Roadrunners is Saturday, April 15th at 1p as the series against the Victor Valley Rams of Victorville concludes.
