Chargers Mercy Santa Ana for 10th Conference Win

CYPRESS, CA- Charger softball (23-3, 10-1 OEC) mercied the Santa Ana Dons (10-12, 6-5 OEC) on Wednesday afternoon, 8-0.

After a minor weather delay, the Dons arrived at Cypress College for the second of three games for the season. A quiet first inning was followed with a loud second for the Chargers as the team tallied four runs in the second.

Jaiden Stern got the Chargers on the board with a two-out RBI single that scored Cameron Curiel from second base. Pitcher Emily Rush followed with an RBI hit of her own as Lizbeth Gomez crossed the plate. From an error by the Dons infield, Cypress scored a third run. With runners in scoring position, Kaitlyn Reynolds knocked in an RBI to cap the inning with four runs.

Cypress continued their success at the plate in the third frame when they tallied two more runs. Mikayla Jacobsen singled and an error by Santa Ana allowed a run to score. Stern smacked a second RBI single to score Jacobsen and make it 6-0 for the home team.

To aid in the mercy, the Chargers offense tagged on two more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Reynolds launched a no doubt solo home run over the left field wall to add to her impressive day. Later in the frame, Jacobsen hit in Hannah Martinez to finish the scoring for the home team.

The Chargers went on to mercy Santa Ana and have won the season series against the Dons. Stern had a multi-hit game as she went 2-2 with two RBIs and a run scored. Reynolds finished the game 2-3 with a key home run in the fourth, 2 RBIs and a run scored. Lead off hitter and pitcher, Emily Rush, was 3-3 at the plate with an RBI and run scored. On the bump, she delivered a complete game shutout, only allowed two hits and struck out four batters. From the win, Cypress collected their tenth conference win and are on a current four game win streak.
