Warriors Drop Heartbreaker to Santa Monica

TORRANCE, Calif . -  The El Camino College Warriors women's soccer team gave up a goal in stoppage time to the visiting Santa Monica Corsairs and lost 2-1 at home on the ECC Soccer Field on Monday afternoon. 

The Warriors (1-4) were playing this game on Monday because the original scheduled game was postponed from September 3rd.  '

The Warriors came off to a sluggish start and Santa Monica (1-3-1) was able to capitalize and score the first goal of the game in the 21st minute.  Charlie Kayem scored her first goal of the game after a nice cross inside the box.   

The Warriors would respond a few minutes later after defensive pressure from the Warriors forced the Corsair defense to clear the ball directly to Sierra Rangel just outside the 18-yard box.  She made one move past a defender before unleashing a shot that hit underneath the crossbar and looked to have the crossed the line but Abigail Cazares was able to pounce on the rebound and easily score her first goal of the season into the open net.  

The Warriors were outshot in the second half 9-to-4 and 17-to-9 for the game. The Corsairs finally found the gamewinner in stoppage time after Prudence Vargas played a perfect ball to Charlie Kayem who's one timed shot went into the net.

Karlee Clark had a valiant effort in goal and made eight saves for the game

The Warriors are on a 6-game homestand with three games for the week.  They play next on Tuesday, September 21st at 5:00 PM against LA Valley.  Please note that the game will take place at Featherstone Field at Murdock Stadium rather than the normal ECC Soccer Field.

NOTES: The game was originally scheduled for 2:00 PM but was delayed until 3:15 PM.
