Bulldogs Close Season with Sweep of Moorpark

SANTA MARIA, Calif. - The Allan Hancock College baseball program closed out the abbreviated Spring II season with a sweep at home versus Moorpark on Saturday afternoon.

The Bulldogs finished the shortened season with an overall record of 18-6 (13-3 WSC) while posting a conference-high .813 winning percentage. Moorpark fell to 14-12 overall (10-10 WSC).

GAME ONE: HANCOCK 13, MOORPARK 6

Moorpark struck first with a pair of runs in the second frame, but bats ignited for the Bulldogs in the same frame as they put up 12 runs in the bottom of the inning. Trenton Pallas got the rally started with a single that plated one and eventually scored on a Raiders error. Another runner scored after a wild pitch before a triple from Jacob Ruley brought home two. Jeff Ray and Trevor Garcia kept the rally going with a pair of RBI single while Parker Haskell and Joey Freitas notched back-to-back doubles, each plating one. Evan Kling closed out the scoring frenzy by launching a three-run homer over the fence. The Raiders attempted a comeback with a four-run showing in the third, but CJ Jaramillo closed the door with a momentum-stuffing strikeout that stranded two on base. A sacrifice fly from Ray, which plated one in the fourth, was the final tally for either side.

Jaramillo collected the win on the bump after allowing just one hit and no runs through 4.1 innings of work. Vander Hodges also made an appearance on the rubber but did not factor into the final decision.

GAME TWO: HANCOCK 10, MOORPARK 4

Hancock stayed hot in the nightcap and opened the scoring early after a sacrifice fly from Haskell plated one in the opening frame. Moorpark notched a pair of runs in the next inning, but a four-run rally in the bottom of the frame put the Bulldogs on top. Garcia sparked the scoring after going the distance for his first home run of the season, while a single from Ray plated two and a bases-loaded walk brought in one. The Bulldogs scored one run in each of the next three innings after Pallas, Ray, and Travis Welker each recorded an RBI. A solo homer from Haskell and an RBI single from Nick Mitchell combined for a two-run inning in the sixth and closed out the scoring for the home squad. The Raiders managed to get two runners home in the seventh frame before bats quieted for both teams.

Vance Serrano earned the win on the mound after recording two strikeouts, two walks, and allowing two earned runs through six innings. Lucas Earle, Isaac Baez, and Anthony Garcia also made appearances on the bump but did not factor into the final decision.
