Gauchos take Knights to the Wood shed

The Saddleback baseball team improved to 2-0 on Saturday with a 19-5 win against San Diego City College in San Diego.  Gaucho Nation Wood had a big day at the plate in the win.

Saddleback took control early and never looked back.  The Gauchos scored two runs in the first, eight runs in the second and three more in the third in taking a 13-0 lead.  The big blast was a grand slam from Wood (pictured), who finished the day 3-for-6 with five RBI.    Wood's home run capped off a second inning that saw the Gauchos rap out six hits while taking advantage of three hit-batsmen and a walk. 

Another with a big day was Joseph Canty, who finished 2-for-3 with two runs-scored and five RBI.  Canty had a sacrifice fly in the first, was hit by a pitch in the second, singled in the third and doubled in the seventh in reaching base three times. 

Saddleback used seven different pitchers, giving a bevy of guys work to start the season.  Curren Larson started and pitched three innings before giving way to the bullpen. Gaucho pitchers stuck out nine Knights on the day while surrendering four walks.

Saddleback outhit San Diego City 16-5 for the day and were helped out by eight walks and six hit batsmen from San Diego City pitchers. 

Saddleback is now 2-0 on the year heading into week two of the season.  The Gauchos will host Santa Barbara City College in a three-game set starting Friday.  The opening game is scheduled to start at 6:00 PM on Friday with a double-header scheduled for Saturday, starting at 1:00 PM.
