Beavers Swept in Series with Folsom Lake

BEAVERS SWEPT BY FALCONS

The American River College baseball team was a couple of hits away from winning the season series against Folsom Lake College but with the Beavers 8-2 loss on Saturday they ended up getting swept in the BIG 8 Conference series.   Freshman LHP Wyatt Winalski (San Juan) had to make a spot start for sophomore Blake Yuyama (Kennedy) who was out with some tightness in the arm and Winalski stepped up to the task.  He allowed a solo home run in the 2nd inning and was close to getting out of the 5th inning unscathed when a 2 out, bases loaded pop up to second was misplayed by freshman 2B Marcellas Flenory (Antelope) allowing two runs to score.  The next batter hit a fly ball that was also lost in the sun allowing two more runs to score.  Winalski retired the side in the 6th before giving way to sophomore LHP Will Gonzales (Elk Grove) who was making his first appearance since being struck with a line drive in the elbow on February 4th.  After allowing the four runs in the 5th ARC came right back in the 6th and scored a pair with a little help from Folsom Lake’s defense.  Freshman DH Dominic Ott (Woodcreek) reached on an error and was moved over to third on a double off the center field fence by sophomore CF Lincoln Orellana (Sheldon).  Ott scored on a wild pitch and after sophomore 1B Bryce Sidler (Oakmont) walked, Folsom Lake tried to pick Sidler off at first and the throw got away allowing Orellana to score.  Gonzales was a little shaky in his first outing as he walked a pair and allowed three runs to score giving Folsom all the insurance they needed.  The Beavers move on to play another Los Rios District school in Cosumnes River College on Tuesday at Beaver Field at 2:30 p.m. followed by a Thursday game at CRC and back to ARC on Friday.
