Pirates cruise to straight-set win over Comets after battle with Olympians

COSTA MESA -- After a five-set slugfest against San Diego Mesa on Friday, the Orange Coast College men's volleyball team managed to get a bit of a more mellow evening with a three-set victory over visiting Palomar College on Wednesday night inside the Peterson Gym.

With an incredible .672 hitting percentage and ZERO hitting errors, the Pirates rolled past the Comets, 25-14, 25-15, 25-14, to improve to 7-2 overall in nonconference play. The loss drops the Comets to 1-5.

Cole Hauser, Mitchell Keddie and Lucas Morse each had seven kills for OCC. Landon Seymour added 24 assists, while William Rice dished out 12. Anchoring the defense was Hide Nakamura, while had a team-best 12 digs.

On Friday, it was a MUCH different environment as the Pirates headed down to San Diego Mesa College to take on the Olympians. Coast prevailed, but not without a stern fight from the Olympians in a 28-26, 28-30, 26-28, 25-19, 15-8 win for the Pirates.

Sebastian Lara led the OCC attack with 22 kills, while Douphner added 14 and Niall Finnegan contributed seven.

Nakamura had 17 digs for the Pirates' defense, while Seymour dished out a season-best 51 assists. 

OCC will return to action on Friday at home against Miramar College, beginning at 6 p.m.
