In their third conference match the MiraCosta women's soccer team took on the San Diego City Knights. The first twenty minutes didn't bring many opportunities for either team but then in the 21st minute the Knights scored a long goal to take a 1-0 lead.  MiraCosta responded immediately with a shot on goal by Katy King and then a long free kick by Aleah Minnich, which found the back of the net and tied the score at 1-1.

City answered with their second goal in the 24th minute with another long shot, regaining the lead.

In the 31st minute the Knights had a breakaway opportunity but Spartan goalkeeper Janette Montanez made the difficult save.  Minutes later Liliano Prieto made a cross for the Spartans which found the head of a teammate but missed the target and went out of bounds.  To end the half the Spartans had another chance to score with Alondra Herrera in a breakaway but the shot hit the crossbar and the half came to an end.

In the second half both teams had opportunities. In the 63rd minute Katy King's shot missed just high of the crossbar.  To end the game MiraCosta had a flurry of chances including a corner kick that came up empty.

In the end, the Spartans came up shot and dropped the game to the Knights.

MiraCosta will next be in action on Friday 9/24 at Imperial Valley College in El Centro, CA.
