Reedley Football at 3-0 After a 55-27 Victory Over Contra Costa

Of the 13 undefeated community college football teams in California, four of them are from the American-Golden Coast Conference.

One of those four just happens to be the Reedley College Tigers, who are also the highest scoring team in the state after last Saturday's 55-27 victory over the Contra Costa College Comets in San Pablo.

In improving to 3-0, Reedley jumped out to a 21-0 lead and never looked back. Jamon Chambers and Michael Eddings scored on short touchdown runs before sophomores Gabriel Herrera and Randall Johnson combined for a 14-yard touchdown pass.

Contra Costa was forced to kickoff from the 10 after two penalties and Chambers returned the kick 39 yards for a score.

A 5-yard run by Johnson was the only score in the third quarter. Ryan Richter kicked two field goals in a 20-point fourth quarter which included a 2-yard scoring run by Tajj Ramsey and a 41-yard scoring pass from River Walker to Kevin Valladares.

Reedley, who went into the game in a three-way tie for the top American Division team in the state, finished with 567 total offensive yards compared to 377 for the Comets. Johnson completed 19 of 33 passes for 270 yards and a score while Chambers finished with 76 yards in 11 carries. Twelve different Tigers caught passes on the afternoon.

Next up for Reedley will be a 1 pm Saturday matchup in Reedley with the Foothill College Owls. Football improved to 2-1 on the season last Saturday with a 14-0 win over San Jose, as they held the Jaguars to just 128 yards of total offense and just 2.1 yards per play. The Foothill and San Jose contest featured 26 penalties for a loss of 258 yards.
