Saying that the GCC Baseball Team won its 13th straight game Saturday April 2 with a 13-6 win at home over Citrus College to improve its WSC South mark to 12-0 and amass a four-game first place lead is one thing. But how they have done it to build their record to 23-5 with top 5 rankings Southern California, No. 2 and No. 5 in the state, requires a much deeper dive into the 2022 season after 28 games.

  • GCC has an .821 winning percentage, 13-3 at home and 10-2 on the road
  • In 12 WSC games, they have scored 135 runs and allowed just 35 and have scored in double digits in eight games
  • With 275 runs scored overall, they are averaging 9.8 runs scored per game and 11.3 in conference play
  • GCC hitters have a .323 overall batting average, a .486 slugging percentage and they have hit 19 home runs
  • On the mound, 11 GCC pitchers have won games in 2022 and starters and relievers alike have combined for a .386 ERA and allowed just 147 overall runs, 107 earned.

On Saturday at Stengel Field, the best of both sides of the game was on display as the Vaqs sprayed 16 hits all over the field, five extra base hits including four doubles and a solo homer and 11 singles and two GCC pitchers, starter Kenji Pallares who pitched five innings to get the win and improve to a team best 6-1 and reliever Aedan Cunnigham chipped in with four innings to earn his third save. Adrian Gonzales, Joey Craig and will Cheatham each had three hits and Alex Mills and Artin Biageyian had two hits each with Gonzalez hitting the solo homer while Craig, Cheatham, Brandon Nguyen and Izzy Madariaga all had doubles.

Glendale will play two of three games on the road this week against College of the Canyons, now in second place at 7-4 in conference, Tuesday April 5 at 2:30 pm at Canyons, Thursday April 7 at 2:30 at home at Stengel Field and Friday April 8 at Canyons at 2:30.
