The Santiago Canyon College Softball Team dropped a pair of games today to the Fullerton College Hornets. The Hornets came away with a 3-2 win in game one of the day and an 8-4 win in game two of the day.
SCC took the early lead in the opening game of the day plating 2 runs in the 2nd inning. Alyssa Yslas reached on a hit by pitch and then advanced to second on a base hit from Alex Molina. Jade Costa then drove a double into right field scoring Yslas and moving Molina to third where she was able to score on a wild pitch. The 2 runs were not enough as Fullerton scored one run in the 4th on a solo homerun and an additional 2 runs in the 6th on 3 consecutive doubles.
Kayla Romero recorded the loss in game one allowing 3 runs on 4 hits. Romero came into the game in relief of Hailey Guillen who threw 3.1 innings while holding the Hornets to 2 hits.
In game two of the day, Fullerton jumped out to the early lead scoring 2 runs in the first inning. The Hawks responded with a run in the bottom half of the frame on an RBI single from Samantha Villanueva that scored Sabrina Rivera who had doubled to lead off the inning. Fullerton pulled away however with 2 runs in the 3rd and 4th innings and later adding an additional run in the 6thand 7th inning. The Hawks looked to rally back in the 5th inning by adding two more runs to their total. Alex Molina and pinch hitter Alicia Fitzgerald led off the inning with a singles. Sabrina Rivera then loaded the bases after being hit by a pitch. With bases loaded and no outs, Adriana Martinez singled through the right side scoring Molina. A Fullerton pitching change was able to induce a fly ball to give the Hornets an out. Samantha Villanueva then drove an RBI single to left field scoring Priscilla Andrade, but the Hawks offense was shut down and not able to rebound the remainder of the game. Scarlett Adams recorded the loss for the Hawks throwing the first 5 innings of the game before Kayla Romero relieved her in the 6th inning.
The Hawks return to action at Fullerton College on Friday for another double header to complete the 4 game series. First game is scheduled for 12pm with game two immediately following.
