(Walnut, CA) The Mt. SAC Softball team dropped its third game of the season with a 3-1 loss to visiting Cypress College Friday (April 23) afternoon.

With two runs in the third inning and one in the fourth, the Chargers (5-0) held off the Mounties (1-3) for the nonconference win.

Sophomore pitcher Annalisa Panuco allowed only three hits and struck out six batters for the Mounties in seven innings.

Three walks and a hit led to two early runs by Cypress in the third, but a perfect throw by Mt. SAC centerfielder Emily Barba to Panuco at home ended the rally.

The Chargers added another run in the fourth for the 3-0 lead.

With two outs in the fifth inning, the Mounties had back-back-doubles by sophomore shortstop Ryan Brizo (1 for 3, Dbl., R) and Barba (2 for 4, Dbl., RBI, SB), scoring Brizo, to trail, 3-1.

The Mounties threatened in the sixth, as sophomore right fielder Haley Moran (2 for 3, Dbl.) doubled freshman shortstop Ariana Coronado to third, but was stranded to end the inning.

The Mounties will host back-to-back doubleheaders Monday (April 26) and Tuesday (April 27) against Moorpark (0-2) and Antelope Valley College (2-0), respectively.

Both twin bills start at 1:00 pm.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, no spectators are allowed.
