Cuesta Baseball Slugs its Way Past Ventura, 14-5

Baseball picked up its fourth win over the past five games with by beating Western State Conference rival Ventura, 14-5, SLO.   Cuesta scored twice in the first inning, but the Pirates took the lead with three runs in their second at bat.  That concluded the days drama, because the Cougars blew the game open with eight runs in their next at-bat for a 10-3 lead.  Both teams added some runs in the 5th and 6th innings, but that ended the offense for the day with Cuesta leading, 14-5.  Third Baseman Zach Tallerman (pict) and Outfielder Ethan Royal (pict) led the Cougars' offense on the day.  Tallerman was 2-for-4, including a double and two walks, and drove in five runs, while scoring once.  Royal went 4-for-4 on the day, while scoring twice and driving in a run.  Right-hander Ben Broughton lasted six innings to earn his second victory of the season, despite allowing a season-high five runs. The victory also moved the Cougars to 2-0 in Western State Conference play and 5-9 overall. 

The Cougars return to Ventura, where they won on Tuesday, for their third straight game against the Pirates on Saturday (1 PM).
