Pirates roll over Rustlers in three

HUNTINGTON BEACH -- The Orange Coast College women's volleyball team went into rival territory and took care of business as the Pirates swept past host Golden West College in an Orange Empire Conference matchup on Friday night.

Brisa Zepata-Reaves had 10 hills, seven digs and three total blocks to lead the Pirates (10-2, 3-1) past the rival Rustlers (5-6, 2-3), 25-17, 25-21, 25-14. Leah Thibault was dominant on the service line with seven aces (ninth-most ever in one match in OCC volleyball history) to go along with seven kills and 16 digs, while Paige Cutwright matched Thibault with seven kills and a .700 hitting percentage.

Setters Grace Holmgren and Ellie Winter spread the offense around with a combined 32 assists, while libero Emily Payne anchored the defense with 17 digs.

In the middle, the Pirate defense was superb with 14 total blocks (10 solo) with Kingsley Mason leading the way with four (three solo).

Coast will have its hands full this week with two strong opponents. On Wednesday, the Pirates will host Cypress College before traveling to Santa Ana College on Friday to take on the much-improved Dons. Both matches will begin at 6 p.m.
