Double-double duo delivers Vikings to state semifinal

The West Valley basketball team made the most of its first appearance in the CCCAA state championship tournament since 2006 with a hard-fought 79-68 win over Citrus Friday at West Hills College-Lemoore. The north #2-seeded Vikings (27-3) advance to Saturday's state semifinal at 3:00pm against south #1 West LA (28-3), a 77-64 winner over Las Positas Friday afternoon.

Ben Baker paced the Vikings with a game-high 22 points, along with 12 rebounds and three assists. He was 10-14 from the line and 2-3 from beyond the arc. Adam Afifi complemented Baker's double-double with 14 points and a game-high 14 boards to go along with two assists and a block. Quinn Denker scored 14 points, grabbed five rebounds and handed out four assists, while Mahmoud Fofana finished with 11 points, two rebounds, a steal and a block. Sufyan Elkannan was 6-6 from the charity stripe and had a game-high five assists. Jacquez Walker drained a pair of big three-pointers, and Noah Yang had a great night off the bench with five points and four rebounds.
