SBVC Opens Conference With Victory

While the final score might not show it at first glance, the San Bernardino Valley College women's soccer team put on a dominat performance Friday afternoon as it dispatched Victor Valley College 1-0 in the Inland Empire Athletic Conference opener for both teams.

SBVC ended the game outshooting the Rams 25-2 - with both Victor Valley shots coming in the first half. And after an initial push from Victor Valley - the Rams won three corner kicks in the opening 25 minutes - the flow of the game was controlled by the Wolverines.

It was the pressure up field by the SBVC attack that led to the game's only goal.

Coming up their left side, the Victor Valley defense tried to make a pass across the middle of the field. But midfielder Nea Prado was there to intercept the ball. She settled the ball and launched a shot from about 30 yards out that floated over the arms of goalkeeper Maxcine Lowe and into the net.

From there on, it was all SBVC. The Wolverines took 13 of their 25 shots in the second half. Lowe ended the game with eight saves for Victor Valley, keeping the Rams in the game. Prado led the team with eight strikes toward goal - three of them on target. Iris Morales had three shots - all on goal - while Angelina Diaz took five shots.

Haley Weghorst picked up the win in goal for SBVC, getting credit for zero saves, as SBVC shut down the Victor Valley attack after the initial push.
