Women's soccer team battles, but falls to El Camino, 2-0

The Irvine Valley women's soccer team saw its three-match unbeaten streak come to an end on Friday afternoon.

The Lasers gave it their all, but came up short in a 2-0 loss to El Camino.

The Warriors scored a goal in each half.

Irvine Valley saw its record slip to 2-3-1 overall on the year, while El Camino improved its record to 4-1-1.

El Camino had the ball in the Laser end most of the first half and were able to take a 1-0 lead in the 23rd minute on a goal by Natalie Rodriguez after a pass was played forward to her from Haley Doyle.

The Lasers attacked much more in the second half and had a couple of good looks on goal, but the Warriors moved ahead, 2-0, on a goal by Allison Sibley off an assist from Angelica Taylor.

Irvine Valley's best chance came in the 81st minute when freshman Carlene Nhu took a through ball from sophomore Leah Maris and streaked in on goal. But Nhu's hard shot was saved by Karlee Clark.

IVC sophomore Julia Butz made here second consecutive start in goal and finished with four saves, including scrambling to save a ball before it crossed the goal line.

Irvine Valley will get a bit of a break from game action early next week. The Lasers play again next Friday at home against Taft at 1 p.m.

The match is a doubleheader with the men's team. The Laser men will take on Taft at 3 p.m.
