SBVC Batters VVC for Tenth Win in a Row

Going into this week's games against Victor Valley College, the San Bernardino Valley College baseball coaching staff warned their team not to look past the Rams for bigger challenges ahead in the next two weeks in the chase for the Inland Empire Athletic Conference title.

Mission accomplished.

SBVC used back-to-back four-run innings to blow open a 4-1 game to beat the Rams 13-2 Friday afternoon.

With one out in the sixth, up 4-1, Luis Martinez-Gomez drew a walk and Anthony (A.J.) Mico singled him to second. After Melchor Flores popped out, Ignacio Zamora launced a pitch over the white line in left field for a three-run home run to make it 7-1 and ending the day for VVC starter Evan Walling. Nathan Campos-Jaramillo greeted Gehrig Diemoz with a double, then scored on a single by Jose Ramirez.

In the seventh, Justin Robles drew a one-out walk, and went to second on a passed ball. Martinez reached on an error, and Mico walked to load the bases. One out later, it was Zamora again with the big hit, this time a double to left-center to score Robles and Martinez. Jaramillo followed with his second double of the game to score Mico and Zamora.

Zamora ended the game 3-for-5 with three runs and five runs batted in, while Jaramillo was also 3-for-5 with three runs scored and a pair of RBI. Alec Castillo was 2-for-4 with two RBI as well.

Yahir Sotomayor picked up the win, spreading out six hits and one run over five innings.

SBVC will open a crucial three-game series against College of the Desert at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at COD, then return home for game two of the series on Thursday at 2:30 p.m.
