Softball earned a decisive sweep of visiting Porterville in a non-conference doubleheader, 17-5 and 20-3.  The Cougars jumped out early in both games and invoked the "run-rule" at both ends of the of the twinbill, with a lead of eight or more in the 5th inning.

In the opener, the Cougars took their initial lead with run scored in the bottom of the 1st inning, but then went on to benefit from 13 straight unearned runs as the Pirates committed eight errors in the game.  Porterville closed the gap to 9-5 in the 3rd inning, on a pair of home runs, but miscues in the bottom of the inning led to five more runs for Cuesta and put the game out of reach.  Cuesta won 17-5 and only scored two earned runs in the game.  In the nightcap, Cuesta pounded out 15 more hits and, this time, earned 12 of their 20 runs as the Pirates cut their error total in half with four.  Shortstop Josie Simas and Rightfielder Julianna Lucke led the Cougars' potent offense on the day.  Simas was 4-for-5, including a double, and scored six times, while driving in three more.  She leads the CCCAA with 20 runs scored on the season and also ranks her 6th in the State with a .512 batting average (Min 30 ABs).   Lucke earned her third start of the season and was 4-for-4 on the day with one run scored and six driven in. Lucke is batting .727 on the season, 8-for-11, and averages a RBI per hit.    Last season, Porterville earned the early season sweep over Cuesta, 17-1 and 9-0, so today's victory is a good marker for the 2020 edition of Cuesta Softball.

The Cougars are 8-4 on the season and travel to Santa Clarita on Thursday (12/2PM) for a doubleheader against College of the Canyons.  The Cougars are back home on Saturday (12/2 PM) for a doubleheader with West Hills.
