Falcons Split Solano Classic #2

Fairfield, Calif. - The Solano women's volleyball team split its Solano Classic #2, falling to American River but sweeping Santa Rosa on Wednesday evening.

Set scores were 25-14, 25-19, 26-24 against the Beavers and 25-16, 25-22, 25-18 against Santa Rosa.

"We got better each set but not enough to push a fourth set," Solano head women's volleyball coach Darla Williams said. "It was our third time playing American River in six days. We can only grow from this experience playing top-ranked teams."

Freshman outside hitter Sammy Brown paced the Falcon offense against American River with 10 kills with sophomore Anaya Rodriguez close behind with seven. Brown tacked on eight digs and two aces, while Rodriguez tallied 11 assists. Sophomore Kailyn Kaiser led the backcourt defense with nine digs, while freshman Gina Garlick and sophomore Mylei Moli each posted a pair of blocks.

Against Santa Rosa, freshman Dani Rydjord led the offense with 12 kills. Rodriguez tacked on eight kills with 14 assists, 14 digs, and six aces. Sharing the setting duties, freshman Jeryn Baldonado tallied 16 assists and was errorless from the service line on 15 attempts with an ace.

Brown racked up 21 digs to lead the defense with two aces, while Kaiser added 14 digs with a couple of aces.

"Our team serving and defense was much stronger and consistent in the second match of the day," Williams said.

 

Solano (5-9) remains home this week, hosting Siskiyous on Friday, Sept. 17 at 4 p.m. Masks are required.
