Playing their first match since November, 2019, the Cerritos College volleyball team was swept by host Mt. San Jacinto College, 11-25, 10-25, 15-25 on Friday. The Falcons will get a chance to rebound on Wednesday when they host Santa Ana College in a 6:00 p.m. non-conference match next Wednesday.

Taking on an Eagles team that is much-improved and expected to go deep into the post-season this year, Cerritos used this match to introduce their all-freshman team to the collegiate game. Head coach Kari Hemmerling is very optimistic about the team and feels they are possibly the most gifted team she's had in her four previous seasons.

Maleah Gonzales (Schurr HS) led the team with four kills on the night, while the trio of Marissa Mendibles (Downey HS), Jayda Harris-Amete (La Mirada HS) and Aiyana Sierra (La Mirada HS) each produced three kills against Mt. San Jacinto. Marissa Mendibles led the team with nine digs, while twin sister Carissa Mendibles (Downey HS) directed the offense with 14 assists from her setter position and also added eight digs.
