Comets finish battle against Pirates to go 2-0

COSTA MESA, CA (3/29/2022) -- After being locked in a 1-1 battle, the Comets broke through on a single by Taylor Harrison to win 2-1 in nine innings against Orange Coast College in game one of the doubleheader. In game two, however, the Comets had no issues with the bats as they easily won 8-2. 

Freshman pitcher India Caldwell (12-2) was the star of the show in game one as she kept the Comets in a tie game until the ninth inning. Pitching the complete game, Caldwell allowed one run one five hits. She walked two batters and struck out eight in the 35 she faced. On the offensive side of the ball, Harrison scored the first run for the Comets in the fourth inning when she scored on a wild pitch. In the ninth, she singled to left field to score fellow outfielder Cadee Herrmann

In game two of the day, the Comets slowly built a steady lead the entire game. They scored two in the second, one in the third, three in the fifth and two more in the sixth. The Comets played small ball the entire game, besides third baseman Allyson Amato's two doubles and second baseman Malachy Russell-Millen's double, it was singles all day for Palomar. Five of their eight runs came on a single. Sophomore Farrah Steffany pitched six innings for the Comets in which she allowed two runs on six hits and recorded three strikeouts. Sophomore Alyssa Domingo pitched the final inning where she allowed one hit. 

The Comets move to 20-4 on the season and will face Imperial Valley College on the road for a doubleheader on Wednesday.
