The West Valley beach volleyball team opened Coast Conference action Friday with wins over Monterey Peninsula and Gavilan at Main Beach in Santa Cruz. The Vikings (7-3, 2-0 Coast) traveled over the hill for a beautiful, if blustery, day at the beach against a pair of short-handed opponents.

WVC 1's Katie Kishton/Flor Porras dropped a tight 21-18, 21-19 match to Kylie Moore/Teresa Ochoa, while the Vikings took the 5's by forfeit. The second wave was all West Valley.
